Our T-Shirt of the Month for June 2023, made of 100% organic cotton by a worker-owned co-operative, and supporting grassroots labour unions in South Asia. It celebrates the birth in June 1869 of Emma Goldman, the legendary Jewish writer, feminist, birth control advocate and anarchist, in what is now Lithuania.
Emigrating to New York City, she worked in many different jobs, like in textile sweatshops, as a masseuse, and in an ice cream parlour.
For her activism she was arrested many times, jailed repeatedly and eventually stripped of her US citizenship and expelled and deported to Russia.
This month’s design comes with a drawing of Emma Goldman and the following quote:
"I want freedom, the right to self-expression, everybody's right to beautiful, radiant things."
The phrase is from her autobiography and Emma Goldman refers to it there as the following:
“Anarchism meant that to me, and I would live it in spite of the whole world — prisons, persecution, everything. Yes, even in spite of the condemnation of my own closest comrades I would live my beautiful ideal.”
The idea and realisation of this month’s design are by tattoo artist and illustrator Ysabel Shrapnel.

When will I receive my t-shirt?
Printing of each T-Shirt of the Month will take approximately one week after being ordered. The shirts will then be shipped from France, and delivery should take up to one week for Europe, and up to 2 weeks for the rest of the world.
In the unlikely event that shirts from dna merch are out of stock, design will instead be printed on an organic t-shirt from fairwear foundation leader Stanley & Stella instead.
