The military draft system overwhelmingly targeted working-class kids, the children of farmers, and blue-collar workers who couldn't afford college deferments. Banned from performing on military bases, the FTA troupe staged explosive, satirical shows combining comedy, live music, and skits right outside them—eventually performing for over 64,000 troops across the Pacific Rim.

The tour and its accompanying 1972 documentary gave a vital platform to the stories of anti-racist resistance (like the Fort Hood 43) and working-class enlisted women facing both sexism and class exploitation.
