Our T-Shirt of the Month for April 2023, made of 100% organic cotton by a worker-owned co-operative, and supporting grassroots labour unions in South Asia. It commemorates the birth in April 1889 of Charlie Chaplin, actor, filmmaker and staunch critic of capitalism, militarism and racism.
This month's design is inspired by Chaplin's film "Modern Times" in which he set out to describe and criticise the daily horrors of capitalist industrialisation. The movie especially focuses on the psychological effects capitalism has on working individuals. Shot during the Great Depression in 1936, the essence of the system Chaplin criticised in his movie hasn't changed until today. Workers continue to being pushed to their mental and physical limits. Ten years ago, also in April, the Rana Plaza factory collapse cost 1,138 lives and hurt at least another 2,000 because the machine had to keep running despite obvious safety issues. Preventable events like this remind us of the sad fact that we are still living in "modern times" and that they are best described as “modern crimes”.

When will I receive my t-shirt?
Printing of each T-Shirt of the Month will take approximately one week after being ordered. The shirts will then be shipped from France, and delivery should take up to one week for Europe, and up to 2 weeks for the rest of the world.
In the unlikely event that shirts from Humana Nova are out of stock, design will instead be printed on an organic t-shirt from fairwear foundation leader Stanley & Stella instead.
